My super-conservative devout Mormon parents (and society in general) have made a lot of progress toward acceptance since I first came out 11 years ago, and I’m genuinely grateful and impressed. But at the same time, I still feel a lot of hurt, and anger, and frustration at how far they (and society) still have to go. Sometimes it can be difficult to find balance between those extremes. It’s been mostly anger this week.

reasons I can relate to a possum:

-tired & unkempt, smells weird
-emotions ranging from “displeased” to “existential scream”
-no work ethic
-lies around looking dead when overwhelmed
-will eat trash & live amongst trash if left to own devices
-sometimes you feel bad and feed it a sandwich

don’t use uteruses as symbol for feminism ok

here’s why:

  • you’re excluding trans women
  • you’re including some trans men
  • you’re excluding cis women who may not have a uterus because they’ve lost it because of or to avoid #cancer

stop doing this it’s so gross

Also, intersex people.

Also just generally speaking using the uterus as a symbol of femininity is really essentialist and lazy. We’re trying to prove the point that women AREN’T baby making factories but in fact people who frequently can have children but also frequently can’t, and using the uterus as this universal symbol makes it seem like the most central thing about a woman is her baby-making capability and that’s not cool even for cis women who can have children. Like…duh.
